Samsung's Notebook 9 goes on sale March 17th

It had conducted a US-specific design study that influenced its choices on things like bezel design, profile taper and corner radii. View full gallery Sarah Tew/CNET When Samsung first told us about the Notebook 9 Pro redesign at CES 2019, it kept hammering on how much work it put into the design. That's exactly how it feels, too: A laptop designed by questionnaire and lacking any sort of personality.  Well, MacBook Pro beware, the Chinese company on Monday unveiled the 15.6-inch Mi Notebook Pro.  id="cnetReview" section="rvwBody"> Xiaomi Xiaomi last year entered the laptop game with the Mi Notebook Air, an obvious attempt to cut the MacBook Air's grass. You can upgrade those specs to a GeForce MX150, 16GB of RAM and a 1TB SSD in the 15-inch model. All models use the Intel 8565U i7 processor. The notebook has fast-charging capability, two Thunderbolt 3 ports, a USB-C port and support for Gigabit WiFi. The Notebook 9 Pen starts at $1,400 for the 13.3-inch model and $1,600 for the 15" version. It runs on Windows 10 Home, and has an Intel UHD Graphics 620 card, 8GB of RAM and 512GB of SSD storage. If you buy one from Samsung's website by March 31st, 2019, you'll receive a $100 eCertificate towards a PC or accessories. (Just ask Apple how things are going these days.) The Notebook 9 Pro doesn't have any major issues caused by the design, but the design doesn't noticeably improve use, either. Operating system Windows 10 Home (64-bit) Form pulls ahead of function Falling short of marketing hype happens, of course. Also, you are of the viewpoint that these run very poorly. There is no truth s these assumptions. This implies that these are slow when it comes to performance. However, all this is a myth. The refurbished laptops do not been that these are slow and poor performers but that these were no longer the choice of the one who was using them earlier. Many of you believe that the old laptops that are available for purchase in the market are over used. But I find that Microsoft Publisher is more flexible. (For free alternatives, try Open Office or Free Serif Software.) What Program to Use? You can use any word processing program to make notebooking pages. As is typical of Xiaomi, there's no official US, UK or Australian release planned, but importing from third-party sellers isn't too difficult. No release window was announced, but I'd expect the laptop to be available in the next month.  In Australia, you can get the same base configuration for AU$1,599, but in the UK you'll currently pay £1,399 to get one with the GTX 1060, but that also gets you more storage and memory and a Core i7 processor.  Sarah Tew/CNET The older GeForce GTX 1050/1050Ti-based version is still available for the time being starting at $899 (£919, AU$1,499), but the new version with the GTX 1060 GPU is $999 for the base configuration -- well worth the extra $100. That config has just a 256GB SSD for storage and 8GB of memory, along with a seventh-gen Core i5 processor. At 2.8 pounds (1.3 kg), the 13.3-inch ultraportable two-in-one is one of the lightest in the category and it's thin at just 0.5 inch (14 mm) thick. And, with a $1,100 price, you're not overpaying for what you're getting, either.  Its battery lasted more than 12 hours, performance is right where it should be and its metal chassis gives it a premium look and feel. It too supports Gigabit WiFi and fast charging, while Samsung says you'll be able to use the notebook for up to 14 hours on a single charge. It uses the same processor and base graphics card as its sibling, with 256GB of storage and 8GB of RAM. The Notebook 9 Pro is available with a 13.3-inch display and it weighs 2.84 pounds. The Notebook 9 Pro, meanwhile, also has an aluminum finish with an Active Pen included in the box. The GeForce MX150 won't get you too far when it comes to gaming, but it's designed to power through photo and video editing. Intel says the new processors are particularly good for 4K video, but the Notebook Pro won't take advantage of that as it's screen is a Full-HD 1,920x1,080 pixels.  More exciting are Intel's 8th generation CPUs, which the company said yield a performance boost of 40 percent over the seventh-generation Kaby Lake chips. The S Pen stores in the body of Samsung's other laptops including the new Notebook 9 Pen and never needs to be charged. The Pro's pen also lacks all of the S Pen's Air Command features that give it an edge over other pen-enabled two-in-ones.  The Pro's pen has no garage or holder and requires the unusual AAAA-size battery. For instance, Samsung used a full-size active pen instead of its compact and debatably more useful S Pen. The 2-in-1 Pen, as the name suggests, comes with an S Pen and has an aluminum body that's just under 1.5 centimeters thick on the 13.3" model. There are also versions with a 15-inch screen. The 13.3-inch model weighs 2.47 pounds and the larger versions start at 3.28 pounds. Samsung claims the device offers up to 15 hours of use on a single charge. -text c-gray-1" >Samsung has revealed its Notebook 9 Pen and Notebook 9 Pro will go on sale this Sunday, March 17th.
