Resumo

A tese central da teoria conceptual da metáfora, que o lingüista George Lakoff e o filósofo Mark Johnson defendem em Metáforas da vida cotidiana, é a de que as metáforas, ao contrário do que em grande parte tem-se publicado a respeito, fazem parte da linguagem cotidiana, têm valor cognitivo, estatuto epistemológico e são essenciais ao nosso processo de conceptualização do mundo.
