Peroneus brevis tendon subluxation
a case report with surgical treatment

Subluxation of the peroneal tendons is a rare pathology, usually related to sports trauma, which occurs due to rupture of the superior peroneal retinaculum. The diagnosis is mostly clinical, but imaging techniques such as dynamic ultrasonography and magnetic resonance imaging may help confirm it. If there is no improvement with conservative treatment, surgical intervention may be indicated, although there is no consensus on the most appropriate technique. In this case report, the authors present a case of subluxation of the peroneus brevis tendon with no apparent traumatic cause, in which surgical intervention was required after failure of conservative management. The chosen technique was superior peroneal retinaculum reconstruction by overlapping, which proved to be successful.
