Abstract

The article analyzes the topic of Artificial Intelligence and its relations with humans, starting from the principle underlying structural semiotics, namely the priority of the relation over the terms. So the focus of investigation is placed on the intersubjective relationships that are built between humans and machines equipped with Artificial Intelligence devices. Compared with traditional machines, these are characterised by going beyond the pure performance of tasks for which they have been programmed : they seem to retroact with respect to the human subject by displaying a modalisation that goes beyond “knowing how to do” and “being able to do”, involving also “duty” and “will”, modalities considered as specifically human until now. Hence the relevance of Landowski’s interactional model for the analysis of this intriguing type of human / machine relationships.
