What does the verb “to prove” mean in the legal domain ? The article develops a distinction between four regimes of verediction, respectively founded on empirival evidence, on the legality of documents or procedures, on the credibility of persuasive discourses, and on the formal validity of demonstrative reasonings. From the possible combinations of these elements result different jurisdictional configurations ranging from a purely “sentimental” to an utopically scientific justice. During a legal process, the same elements tend to define, for each of the participants, a specific mode of establishing “truh”.
