Abstract: This article examines the presence of social thought along
Lacan’s work. We argue that the presence of a theory of value, in clear
association with a social recognition theory, conditions psychoanalysis to
develop around the theory of subject constitution, of reality conception
and of the notion of Real. We demonstrate that a social thought
with this conditioning factor is regularly present both in the origins
of Lacanian thought and in the diagnosis it shares with social theory
concerning modernity. Then, the article shows how this theoretical
conditioning factor appears in subsequent developments of Lacan’s
work, usually interpreted as being governed by a demand that is strictly
epistemological. We conclude that this social method is infiltrated in the
main deductions of the Lacanian psychoanalytical psychopathology.
Keywords: social theory; Lacan; theory of value.
