Mapping the conservative movement

a social network analysis of the editions of the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) in Argentina, Brazil, the United States and Mexico, between 2024 and 2025

Abstract

This study aims to describe the intricate international network of CPACs through the lens of their Latin American and Caribbean editions, with particular attention to the main functions and roles played by panelists as key network articulators. To achieve this, the method of Social Network Analysis (SNA) was employed to construct the network of event panelists. The mapped network made it possible to identify the influence of the two main poles of the conservative movement in Latin America and the Caribbean: the United States, with its massive presence in key editions of the event, and Europe, with a notable role played by the Spanish conservative movement. Additionally, the analysis highlights the presence of agents who bridge various editions, forming an international community with a strong presence in the event’s internationalization process.
