EDITORIAL

Dear reader,

The periodical Cognitio-Estudos: revista electronica de filosofia (Cognitio- Studies: electronic periodical of philosophy) has published editions characterized by studies that contribute to philosophical reflection of a scientific nature. Our thanks extends to the authors whose interest and acuity to contribute with articles, reviews and translations, has made it possible for us to overcome the scarcity of quality written works.

The present edition distinguishes itself not only by the voluminous quantity of texts, but also by the depth of the topics addressed, ranging from knowledge in the social arena as well as the personal and the implications thereof. Whichever disposition, conservative or progressive, that today is presumed in liberal democracy, Diego Alejandro Otero Angelini, portrays, from John Dewey's viewpoint, to what extent liberal democracy can be "justifiable" in plural societies and at the same time, regarded as a society ordered towards the concrete good. Above and beyond the opinions that lie as insurmountable trenches, the last article by Pablo Fernando Campos Pimentel is of great importance, because it encompasses conservatism in the field of ideas and the revolutionary in the camp of "precaution" and "prudence".

In addressing the relationship of the person to the universe, it is important to acknowledge the significant difference between knowing and signifying. This is what Maria Aparecida dos Anjos Carvalho considers based on the work of Charles Sanders Peirce, underlining the importance that the apprehension of feelings has, since in the Universe, they are responsible for significant creation. Nonetheless, the big question is: "What is the place of the person in the natural order?" The author Everaldo Cescon discusses the Dennettian concept of person in the theoretical domain of psychological and biological nature. Moreover, there is still the possibility of the philosophical analysis of the statute of the personal identity of oneself, proposed by the author Jeferson Flores Portela da Silva, in Paul Ricouer's hermeneutic of the self. Regarding the dynamic of human experience, Sabrina Balthazar Ramos Ferreira indicates the "perception" that reveals the mode of action human beings have with the world. But it is the "certainty and the dichotomy fact/value" that makes it possible to engage in meta-ethical questions affected by the concept of the form of human life, based on Wittgenstein.

Luiz Fernando Barrére Martin presents an excellent treatment on a critique of Hegel, with emphasis on the philosophy of the "common" and in ancient skepticism, which seeks to say something about the sensible. A reflection that may be strange to common sense, enigmatic or even aporetic is the article by author Bismarck Bório de Medeiros about "luck" and anti-luck" in the vision of Ducan Pritchard. Nonetheless, the author seeks an appropriate philosophical reflection, that is, coherent, necessary and relevant in order to define such terms in a modal and epistemological approach.

The author César Fernando Meurer, by putting forth a challenge to evolutionary psychology, sees in the human mind the possibility of using "a module to seek temporal parts of events", proposing an externalist view of time. Thus, modality gains another direction with Felipe Miguel, who suggests confluent points between "the thought of G.W. Leibniz, Thomas Aquinas and the contemporary discussion of Metaphysics and the best possible world".

I conclude this presentation inviting readers to continue appreciating the content offered by authors of the PUCSP and other Institutions. All of this is only made possible thanks to the efforts of the whole Cognitio-Estudos team, who extend their gratitude and wish a New Year full of profound and valuable insights.
