Nathan Houser and Peirce’s scholarship in the hispanic world

Resumen

Nathan Houser's academic work has been extremely important for the development of Peircean scholarship in the Hispanic world. In my paper, I recall my first contacts with Professor Houser, my visits to the Peirce Edition Project in Indianapolis, his visit to the Grupo de Estudios Peirceanos in Navarra, and highlight his permanent support for the development of research and study of the thought and figure of Charles Sanders Peirce in Spain, Argentina and in other Hispanic countries. In particular, I would like to highlight some of his virtues such as his academic rigor, his cordiality, and his ability to welcome people who know nothing and who want to study Charles Sanders Peirce. Undoubtedly, Houser has been the most eminent Peircean scholar in the last decades. In particular I like to remember not only the panel “The Cosmopolitan Peirce: The Impact of his European Experience” that we organized with Sara Barrena, Nathan Houser and myself at the Charles S. Peirce International Centennial Congress, which took place in Lowell, Massachusetts in 2014, but also his moving Memorial Meeting, titled “Peirce’s Tragic Struggle with Destiny,” that he gave in those days at St. Anne’s Episcopal Church in Lowell.
