O BISPO E A DITADURA: DOM JORGE MARCOS, BISPO DE SANTO ANDRÉ
Abstract
This article aims to analyze the relationship between Catholicism and society in the ABC Paulista region at the time of the Military Dictatorship during the episcopal ministry of Bishop Jorge Marcos de Oliveira (1915-1989), who was bishop of the region between 1954-1975. Being responsible for the implantation of the Diocese in the region, he worked with the labor movement, promoting a new model of ecclesiastical authority in relations with the elites and the social problems of his time.
