BRAZILIAN PUBLIC SCHOOL AND INTEGRAL EDUCATION: CHALLENGES AND POSSIBILITIES

The Brazilian public school, in the 20th and 21st centuries, was the scene of some successful democratic pedagogical experiences based on the idea of Integral Education, which occurred intermittently in the history of Brazil. These experiences are precious to be understood and updated by scholars of education and friends of democracy. They are seeds for the renewal of the long struggle for the right to school education of social quality in Brazil. This paper-interview aims to bring to the attention of readers interested in the subject the testimony of one of the most recent actions in this direction through Professor Jaqueline Moll’s words, one of the great current references in Integral Education in Brazil, who was responsible for the implementation of the ‘Mais Educação’ Program (2007-2016), an experience that the political-legal-media coup that occurred in 2016 attempted to abort. In the dialogue between the interviewers and the interviewee, the power of counter-hegemonic initiatives and the possibility of promoting a public school where everyone fits and where human dignity is the first agenda are debated. The concept of Integral Education is updated and the need to create public policies of an inclusive nature that consider intersectoriality and listen to community/popular knowledge is emphasized, as well as the importance of maintaining the “possible dream” and the struggle for a better world, even in times of obscurantism and humanitarian crises.Citas
