Abstract

A sample of 422 teachers (from a total of 32 thousand) answered a questionnaire of 87 questions. The aim of the questionnaire was to know the conditions of the vocal production of teachers of Sao Paulo. Most of the teachers were women with more than 9 years of teaching, age average of 29 to 49 years old, with no vocal orientation and speaking a lot. In these teachers we could notice the presence of 2 vocal symptoms and also a high percentage (60%) of vocal alteration in the past or nowadays. We concluded that most of the observed teachers don’t have any knowledge about the process of vocal production, with an overload of work plus the presence of adverse situations and inappropriate physical environment.
