Who is this professional, the phonoaudiologist?

Abstract

With this article we intended to review some of the questions presented in Freire & Col. (1987) and in Freire & Ferreira (1993), in order to outline the profile of speech therapist of the States of Sao Paulo, Mato Grosso and Mato Grosso do Sul. We also intend to describe some characteristics of the speech therapy services in the public institutions. We conclude that there is a necessity for more thought by the speech therapist in relation to his professional activity in order to identify the origin of his demand and to put in order of priority the actions directed to promote health.
