Audiologic evaluation of fitness instructors working at fitness centers in Curitiba

Abstract

This piece of research presents the audiological profile of fitness i9nstructors working at fitness centers in Curitiba. The exams used in the audiologic examination of the 32 teachers that took part in the research were: interview, external ear analysis, pure-tone thresholds, speech reception thresholds, and otoacoustic emissions. The audiometric results showed a neurosensorial hearing loss in high frequencies in 6% of the teachers; normal speech reception thresholds; normal middle ear analysis, except for absence of contralateral acoustic reflex in 4.000Hz in 96% of the cases. The transient evoked otoacoustic emissions were normal in 55% of the cases and the distortion product otoacoustic emissions presented lower amplitudes for high frequencies in 50% of the cases.
