Abstract

Objective: This paper aims at comparing vocal habits, vocal usage and vocal complaints by thirty stallholders from Piracicaba and forty-five from São Paulo. A questionnaire was filled in their own work environment. Results: improper vocal habits (smoking), voice alterations at the end of a day’s work and difficulty in using a loud speaking voice were more frequent in São Paulo. Conclusion: stallholders from both cities have vocal features that may lead to occupational dysphony. However, a reduction in competition may result in fewer vocal complaints.
