Abstract

This study aims to accomplish clinical evaluation of language and of deglutition in patients hospitalized after stroke and to elaborate proposed therapeutics for the identified alterations. So, 14 patients men and women, aged from 48 and 84 were assessed. To language evaluation, 1 aphasic patient aged 84 was specifically assessed through spontaneous conversation, which was transcribed for subsequent analysis. To the structural and functional swallowing evaluation, we verified structural alterations of swallowing in most of the patients. We concluded that changes of positioning, of alimentary consistences, of the feeding way and decrease in the speed of the attended feeding were necessary for effective feeding conditions, together with speech/language therapist intervention through myotherapic stimulation and language therapy.
