Mastication: Analysis by electromyography and eletrognatography. Its usage in the speech therapy clinic
Keywords:
electromyography, eletrognatography, chewingAbstract
Objective: to check the chewing pattern cycles of healthy individuals without ATM dysfunction symptoms, during chewing, and describe the electric activity of the anterior temporal and masseter muscles during chewing and resting jaw. Methods: electromyography exams are used to record the electric activity of the muscles and electrognatography to scan the jaw movement in each chewing cycle. Twenty six individuals take part. Results and Conclusions: the temporal muscle showed greater electric activity in the resting state and the masseter on the preferential chewing side. Of 26 individuals 65,4% chewed more on the right side, and 34,6% on the left side. That is, 100% of the individuals showed right or left preferential chewing side.Downloads
