Abstract

Caregivers have been object of attention and study in many fields of science, while in the speech pathology field they still need to be properly studied. The aim of this study was to analyse the testimony of a housewife, caregiver to her husband, in which were verified both her potentialities and her limitations on playing this caregiver role. The narration was analyzed on a qualitative way, based on the microgenetic analysis guidelines and on the evidential paradigm. The results found show the caregiver’s difficulties, and her limitations to get involved in linguistic-communicative interactions with her husband so that she could be able to contribute with his linguistic reorganization, coming to stablish relations that could make a difference in the process of language reconstruction and in his social reinsertion. The conclusion is that it is of fundamental importance, in the speech pathology field, to welcome, to listen to and to orient the caregivers, who are the basic responsible people for the interactions with the aphasic on a day-to-day basis.
