This paper brings some of the results obtained in a research conducted in 2010 which aimed at identifying images of Brazil in texts published online in US and UK newspapers also translated into Portuguese. A new methodology was developed to draw on concepts from Corpus Linguistics (SINCLAIR, 1987a) and then these into original concepts related to the issue of image detection. The notions that the method started off with were lexicogrammatical patterns (HUNSTON and FRANCIS, 2000), Lexical Priming (HOEY, 2005) and Semantic Prosody (PARTINGTON, 1998). Concepts emerged throughout the development of the methodology which included: key-participant, key-collocate, image index element and imagetic priming.
