The importance of psychological evaluation in the legal framework

Abstract

This article addresses the importance of psychological assessment in the legal context, highlighting the role of psychologists in justice institutions in the psychological assessment process. The main objective of this research is to understand the role of professional psychologists, their contributions and challenges in this scenario. In addition, specific objectives include a review of the literature pertinent to the topic, covering concepts, definitions and processes associated with it. One methodology used was a bibliographic review of recent and relevant sources. The results indicate that psychological assessment is essential to determine the competence, mental health, risk and dangerousness of individuals, directly influencing judicial decisions. The need for standardization of assessment instruments and continuous training of professionals was highlighted to ensure the validity and reliability of the results. It is concluded that psychological assessment is essential in the legal sphere, as the psychologist seeks to guarantee fairer and scientifically based decisions.
