Abstract

This text aims to present an analysis of the work Girl with a Pearl Earring (2002), of Tracy Chevalier (1962-) from the dialogical relationship between at least three elements: fiction, historical data and the painter Johannes Vermeer (1632-1675). With theoretical Aesthetics of Reception, try to understand the appropriation of historical and biographical elements as determinants of emancipatory horizon of the protagonist, Griet, whose educational path, his Bildung, gives up amid the initiation to the art of painting: first with his father, then in Vermeer fictionalized historical figure, recognized as one of the most important artists of his time. The aim is also to observe how the work establishes communication with the implied reader.
