Abstract

This paper aims to examine the ecphrastic exercise as a factor of enlargement of the sense of an artwork. On the limit of the description, the readings performed by contemporaneous Brazilian poets of visual artworks show the advantages of practice, asserting itself beyond mere intertextuality or beyond a starting point for creation. We seek to demonstrate that the poet acts in interpreting non-verbal signs by means of the verbal system signs, adding elements of his poetry and, in this process, the qualities and senses are intensified in both the poem and the visual artwork.
