This article aims at performing a critical interpretation of the novel São Bernardo (1934), by Graciliano Ramos, in the light of Aesthetic Theory (1970) by Theodor W. Adorno. We will seek to analyze the moments of contradiction and antagonism that the work encloses, considering the fundamental concepts of Aesthetics and the contrasts found in the logical and formal structure of the novel. This analysis and interpretation will lead us to propose the tragic sense of the experience of the modern subject that is implied in the reading of the second novel of the Brazilian writer.Downloads
