Abstract

This article focuses on the concept of “cultural translation” - a metaphor much used in the area of Translation Studies (BHABHA, 1994/1998; RIBEIRO, 2005; SOUZA, 2004). The discussion centers on different concepts of metaphor and on the several metaphorical uses of the word “translation”, particularly on the associations it establishes with the concept of “culture”. In the light of Conceptual Metaphor Theory put forth by Lakoff and Johnson (1980) an analysis of the metaphor “cultural translation” is carried out.
