the purpose of our research is to extend the metaphor studies, from a discursive-cognitive point of view, to the Referentiation and Argumentation perspectives. We examine how the selection of metaphorical terms associated with other linguistic formulations allows the metaphorical discursive construction of reality of way the to constitute specific argumentative orientations, in the international political domain, particularly in President of the Republic Luis Inácio Lula da Silva discourses in foreign countries.
