Abstract

Based on the concepts belonging to the Systemic-Functional Linguistics, this article aims to analyze how the ideological representations emerging from language, by means of lexical and syntactic choices, as well as its specific attachment process made via discourse (including the use of metaphors) operate, regardless the facts surrounding them, as to try and convince and manipulate the hypothetical reader, concerning the preservation of the Amazon forest,  such as published  in a Folha de S. Paulo newspaper editorial section on August 24onth, 2019. Such a case study is considered to be a subject embedded within a cultural context, which is the outcome of a way of life and, thus, of the ideology of habits. This, on its turn, is a determiner of the cosmovision, including its political development, which emphasizes the ideological aspect of that process. One considers thus that any aspect of the linguistic structure embodies ideological meaning that supports and sustains representation.
