Abstract

This study aimed to describe the experience of hospitalization for the elderly. Qualitative study conducted in October and November 2014 with 20 elderly patients, data collection occurred in through semi-structured interview followed by content analysis. The elderly highlighted the hospitalization experience the possibility of living together with others, to help others and recovery of health. The gerontologist nurse through active listening and evaluation of elderly needs can use care strategies that promote their autonomy and independence during hospitalization.
