This study seeks to compare respiratory muscle strength, pulmonary function, anxiety, depression 35 elderly ex-smokers, and 18 institutionalized and 17 noninstitutionalized. It was found that the institutionalized elderly have worse respiratory conditions, higher levels of depression and impaired quality of life compared to non-institutionalized elderly. The time of smoking cessation is associated with improved lung function levels in these subjects.Downloads
