This work aims to study publications that address the understanding of aspects that concern the Anticipatory Mourning of the elderly about themselves. It also aims to identify, in these studies, whether there is reference to anticipatory mourning as a preparatory resource (protection factor) or an aggravating factor (risk factor) in the elderly's experience. The research was based on papers published in electronic databases of the Virtual Health Library (VHL) and PubMed, and covered all the works until 2016. The articles analyzed presented discussions about the mourning that permeates the successive losses of aging and the need to recognize and welcome the elderly in this process. The subjects discussed in the papers studied were: the suffering of people who ages and cries for themselves, the feeling of death and aging for the elderly, and also the mourning caused by the loss of the exiled friend.
