Tempo e esgarçamento da narrativa em Virgínia Woolf

Resumo

A obra de ficção de Virginia Woolf persistentemente desenvolve uma discussão metalingüística a respeito da questão do tempo. Esta não apenas surge nesta obra como foco temático-conteudístico da representação literária, mas também esgarça a própria forma narrativa, construindo- a de maneira não sucessiva e “acronológica” e imprimindo-lhe uma tessitura estético-temporal peculiar. Nossa discussão focalizará a questão do tempo na obra de Virgina Woolf tanto em sua dimensão metalingüística quanto estrutural e poética. Serão focalizados prioritariamente modos pelas quais a “estética do momento” se plasma nos textos To the lighthouse e Mrs. Dalloway, buscando-se o entrecruzamento entre esta estética e o referencial teórico apresentado por diferentes pensadores acerca da questão do momento em particular e do tempo em geral. Dentre estes pensadores, destacamos Octavio Paz, Auerbach, H. Bergson, Urquhart e Charles S. Peirce. This discussion not only points to the theme and content of literary representation but also affects the narrative form, which is construed in a non-sequential and a-chronological way, being thus assigned with a unique aesthetic and temporal configuration. This paper focuses on the notion of time in Virginia Woolf’s creation, considering this notion both from a metalingual and a poetic standpoint. It concentrates on aspects of the “aesthetics of the moment” which can be derived from an analysis of the novels To the lighthouse and Mrs. Dalloway. Analogies between this aesthetics on the one hand, and ideas referring to time in general and to the notion of “moment” in particular put forward by theorists such as Octavio Paz, Auerbach, Bergson, Urquhart and Charles Sanders Peirce on the other, will be discussed.
