Social struggles and the “semiproletarian” movement in Ecuador

Abstract

In this article we discuss, fundamentally, the limits of Ecuadorean “semi-proletarian” struggles,based on the theoretical understanding that the actors organized around the Confederationof Indigenous Nationalities of Ecuador (CONAIE) are not wholly subordinated tocapitalist expropriation. Therefore, they are not direct producers of value added. We understandthat without the joint protagonism of the more combative proletariat, through the revivalof its parties and unions, attempts at socialist transition tend to fail, as has occurred in someinstances.
