Abstract

The Combahee River Collective was a black feminist group headquartered in the city of Boston. Its name came from a guerrilla action inspired and led by Harriet Tubman on June 2 1863, in the Port Royal region of South Carolina. This action, which liberated more than 750 enslaved people, was the only military campaign led and planned by a woman in U.S. history.
