Abstract

The organizational strategizing approach, as a social practice – Strategy as Practice (S-as-P) – has, in recent decades, represented an effort to propose an alternative vision to the traditional view of strategy – outlined by the perspectives of authors such as Michael E. Porter, Henry Mintzberg, and Igor Ansoff. The contours of this new field of study, still under construction, are unclear in some respects, mainly due to the persistent presence of traditional dichotomies, such as the oppositions between agency and structure, and between the subjective and the objective: what ends up maintaining S-as-P close to the traditional process perspective of strategy.  Faced with these shadows, Pierre Bourdieu is one of the authors of the well-known Practice Turn, offering a perspective that can contribute to a clearer delineation of S-as-P. Through a Bourdieusian reading of strategy, this essay presents connections and theoretical articulations that can fill gaps, therefore contributing to the solidification of S-as-P.
