The role of psychologist in Down's syndrome: a literature review

Abstract

The objective of this research is to realize a revision of literature about Down syndrome, as a focus in the psychological work. The literature concerning psychological interventions with Down syndrome carrier is infrequent. It has been researched on the virtual Library of Psychology portal, the expression “Down Syndrome”, the researches which were published between 2003 to 2008 performing the total of 39 researches, it has been created categories, in order with the specific objectives of this research, to know, to be acquainted with the themes, the objectives, the kinds of researches and the intervention of the psychologist with Down Syndrome carrier. The results indicated an advantage of the family and of the language as treated thematic, prevalence of the objectives of descriptive research; the researches are being in its majority of camp and finally, the less representatives of intervention of the psychologist.
