Abstract

This article aims to analyse the scientific field of Sociology (and Anthropology) of Religion in Portugal, studying their agents (authors) and their published academic work. From an initial Sociology marked by pastoral agenda of the Catholic Church, we are witnessing the secularisation of it. In terms of agents, current research focuses mainly in Lisbon, also elapsing in Oporto, Braga and Ponta Delgada, losing however the pole of Évora, associated with the Jesuits. The published work can be divided into two areas: sociological (characterisation of the Portuguese religious field and analysis of the relationship between religion and politics) and anthropological (religious minorities associated with immigrants).
