Abstract

Translation (Fábio L. Stern) kindly authorized by the author of a lecture on methodological challenges in building the history of the science of religion, originally published in 1997. Given the concern of Brazilian researchers of the science of religion in raising the history of the discipline in Brazil over the last three years, Strenski's discussion presents itself as an important international counterpoint on how to construct a correct history of the studies of religion.
