Edgar Morin's book L'Homme et la mort is revisited as a concrete mirror to think about death from an anthropological point of view and, in a direct way, to honour Professor José J. Queiroz on the occasion of his death. The complexity paradigm adopted by Morin was one of the theoretical and methodological tools used by Queiroz in his research and reflections. The article revisits central points of the 1951 work, focussing on the author's paradigm shift and, consequently, the new framework in which he subsequently places this study. Death integrates life and life integrates death. Based on this realisation, which overcomes the dichotomies between living and dying, the reflection invites us to remember the illustrious professor.
