Abstract

This critical essay is a tribute to Professor Emeritus of PUC-SP, Prof. Dr. José J. Queiroz. This acknowledgment is made by exalting a project that the honoree has cultivated over the years in his career: that of making the catholic university, particularly PUC-SP, an institution whose universality is realized not only in the commitment to develop scientific knowledge of universal interest, but also through its de-elitization and its social commitment, mainly considering the worsening of climate imbalances and structural inequalities. The configuration of such a project is critically analyzed throughout the history of the catholic university in Brazil.

Doutor em Educação pela Pontifícia Universidade Católica de São Paulo – PUC-SP (1989). Professor Titular do Departamento de Fundamentos, Políticas e Gestão da Educação, da PUC-SP. Docente e Pesquisador do Programa de Pós-Graduação em Educação: Currículo, da PUC-SP, onde coordena a Linha de Pesquisa Currículo, Conhecimento e Cultura.
