Abstract

The revival of libertarian ideas has sparked the interest for understanding the only historical experience in which anarchism was the government, and which has often served as inspiration to new Brazilian social urban movements. This article discusses the presence of libertarian culture in today’s Barcelona, as a hallmark of cooperative and convening experiences arising from neighbourhoods, that blended into an unprecedented combination with the anarchist National Confederation of Labour – CNT. Material used is based on relevant bibliography and files, and on interviews with specialists. Athenaeums regulars and cooperatives activists have also been heard. Now a day their principles are present in the athenaeums – formerly education centers, currently meeting and cultural places – and in the experiences of cooperatives
