ARAGUAIA’S GUERRILLA: VIOLENCE, MEMORY AND REPARATION

Abstract

In this article, we sought to analyze the Araguaia Guerrilla (1972–1974), an armed resistance movement against the military dictatorship organized by leftist militants in Pará, Maranhão and Tocantins, with the purpose of effectiving, through the rural guerrillas, the revolutionary process via peasantry. The objective is to understand, from the dialogue with the literature theories of testimonial content and psychoanalysis, from the concepts of trauma, repetition and forgetfulness, which enabled the memory deletion of the guerrilla in Pará and, consequently, the intensification of violence in this region. In this respect, we researched the journals written by militants, the reports of military operations produced by the Brazilian Army and, finally, the reports of the survivors of the repression of the guerrilla, presented to the National Commission of Truth and the Federal Prosecutor's office.
