Guadarrama was born in the midst of the Cuban revolutionary construction, and participated in the literacy brigades. He studied philosophy in Germany (GDR) and history in Cuba, and began teaching the history of philosophy. In 1984, he met Leopoldo Zea, an encounter that led to a long collaboration that deepened the debate on Latin Americanism. He is the author of an extensive body of work that includes, among other books: “Historia de la filosofía latinoamericana” (2000) and “Cultura y educación en tiempos de globalización posmoderna” (2006). From work carried out jointly in the context of the Núcleo Práxis-USP, the dialogue from which this interview was born began, which comes to the public in times of recognition: in his 75 years, he has received tributes, awards and editions of works that revisit his thought (including translations into Portuguese), such as the expanded edition of “Marxism and anti-Marxism in Latin America” (2023), which has been three decades in the making.
