Abstract

The point of this paper is to discuss the diaspora process experienced by Indians in Minas Gerais, specifically in regions located between the current Forest Zone and Vale do Rio Doce. This forced displacement was a result of the land conquest process triggered from the second half of the eighteenth century and peaked in the first half of the nineteenth century when it was declared the "just war against the Botocudos" generic name by which the indigenous nations whose resisted the seizure of their lands were known.
