Brazil: 1964 coup d’état. Which state, country and society are these
Keywords:

This article intends to study the specificity of the Brazilian military regime (1964-85) which results in the understanding of a certain internal ambiguity. It compares the Brazilian military government to others that took place also in the American continent almost in the same period and equally caused by coups d’état which overthrew the legally constituted power. We show the research accomplished in the field of political proceedings judged by the Military Justice (1964-79). These political proceedings tried to make journalists pennally liable for attempting against the so called national security. We based ourselves on the works maintained by the Brasil: Nunca Mais project, we analysed a sample which represents this entirety and therefore, drew conclusions which corroborate the dialectic reading instead of the linear reading, which must take place, when studying this period of the Brazilian history.Downloads
