Abstract

The purpose of this paper is to analyze and to compare the methodological aspects of the main indicators that measure the inflation rate in Brazilian economy. So the institutions and their analytical methods for measuring the evolution of the price general level are distinguished. The results point out there is a great methodological heterogeneity among consumer price index. In spite of this finding, the inflation indicators tend to be very related at least during the period from January 2001 to December 2002. The conclusions also show the inflation indicators are little representative if its geographic area is very large.
