Abstract

The objective of this study is to test the competitiveness of Brazilian imports of paddy rice from Uruguay, Argentina and the United States. The methodology used is the Residual Demand model, which estimates the regressions for each of the nations with the use of variables that measure the cost of other competitors, factors that stimulate demand, among others. Procedures are used to estimate 2SLS and SUR. The results suggest that all three nations by marketing in Brazilian territory have power to determine prices of paddy, although small
