Abstract

Thisstudy examined the growth determinants of Gross Value of Production (GVP) ofsugarcane to Goiás, Mato Grosso do Sul and Mato Grosso, during 1991-2011 andsub-periods 1991/2001 and 2001/2011. For that, used the shift-share model andthe decomposition of three effects: area, income, and price. The results showedthat the price effect was crucial for the GVP’s growth of midwest region for1991/2011, but in the case of sub-periods, the area effect was primarilyresponsible for raising the GVP. In comparative analysis it observed that MatoGrosso do Sul had the largest increase GVP vis-à-vis Mato Grosso and Goiás.
