A RELIGIO DO CRISTIANISMO PRIMITIVO: ARTE, SÍMBOLOS E RESIGNIFICAÇÕES NAS CATACUMBAS ROMANAS

Das imagens pictóricas, símbolos e inscrições funerárias expressas nos afrescos e epitáfios das catacumbas romanas, emerge uma reflexão sobre a capacidade simbólica do homem, e neste caso, a experiência religiosa dos primeiros Cristãos. A liberdade de expressão por meio da arte e da linguagem simbólica desta nova religio nos remete à dimensão interior e às práticas dos primeiros cristãos, um tipo de simbolismo de que a espiritualidade se servia tanto no mundo cotidiano como na esperança em um mundo por vir. Essa religião caminhava junto às necessidades humanas, com a função de superar o sofrimento em uma sociedade que emergia de um contexto cultural, social, político e econômico propício a este anseio, promovendo assim, uma nova forma de comunicação e interação social aos convertidos.
