Fisioterapia para o tratamento do linfedema no pós-operatório de mastectomia: revisão de literatura / Physiotherapy for the treatment of post-mastectomy lymphedema: literature review

The main complication created by the surgical treatment of breast cancer is lymphedema. The objective of this study was to assess the importance of physiotherapy in reducing the lymphedema after surgical treatment of breast cancer through a literature review. Twenty-five articles fetched directly in the databases MEDLINE, LILACS, SciELO and PUBMED from the year 2000 and on were read and analyzed. Through the results obtained in this study, we concluded that physiotherapy is important in the recovery of women who had mastectomies at all stages of treatment. However, best results appear when there is early intervention from the physical therapy team.
