Abstract

The text examines how digitalisation has transformed the production and access to information, decentralising the media and allowing individuals to become creators and curators of content. It argues that digital media creates a new meaning for the act of “being informed” through two distinct curations. Editorial curation involves conscious choices about how news is prioritised, while algorithmic curation, based solely on user behavior, personalises content and creates informational bubbles that reinforce pre-existing beliefs. Both strategies establish distinct regimes of interaction, oscillating between manipulation and programming ; both influence social practices regarding information, but algorithmic curation tends to intensify fragmentation and social polarisation, while editorial curation favors debate and diversity of opinions.
