Abstract

In our increasingly digitalized societies, the forms taken by the nature, diffusion and consumption practices of what is known as topical news are infinitely more complex than they were in the last century, to the point of generating new behavioural syndromes. With a view to better understanding this phenomenon, this article calls upon two distinct semiotic perspectives, tensive and interactional. After a close examination of their apparent convergences (particularly in terms of terminology), we show that while tensivity makes it possible to account for the various strategies of media production and the trends at work in this field today, it is the regimes of interaction and meaning that have the capacity to delineate with greater relevance, rigour and precision the logic underlying the dynamics of practices observable among our contemporaries.
